Will refrain from operating buses from tomorrow if fine sheets issued to bus owners: Gemunu

Colombo, Jan 21 (Daily Mirror) - police implement the action of sending fine sheets to bus owners based on CCTV footage from tomorrow, the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) said they will refrain from operating buses from tomorrow.

LPBOA chairman Gemunu Wijeratna said the police have planned to send fine sheets based on CCTV footage from tomorrow.

Addressing the media he said that it is unfair to send the fine sheets related to the mistakes of the buses to the owner of the bus.

He said police have taken the decision without having any discussions with the bus association.

He further said that the bus owners will agree to this proposal if the bus priority lane is implemented and proper arrangements are made for operating buses.

CID visits Minister Keheliya’s residence

Colombo, Dec 26 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is currently recording a statement from former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that a group of CID officers visited the Minister's residence in Colombo this morning to record a statement in connection with the import of substandard Human Immunoglobulin to the country.

Colombo, Dec 15 - Sri Lanka’s public security minister, Tiran Alles, is the first sitting Sri Lankan minister to be identified in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ Pandora Papers data trove as having offshore holdings. An ICIJ analysis of the leaked records and U.K.’s public property register shows that Alles, a media tycoon and politician, owns two British Virgin Islands companies that hold properties in London.
